(words by erin)

Eunice and Shan are getting married this summer in San Francisco. We were so happy to get them in front of our cameras before the big day for some engagement photos.

Eunice booked her hair and makeup with the amazing Maria Chang (who also did my hair and makeup for our wedding in Mexico), so going into this shoot we knew one thing for sure – Eunice was going to look fantastic.

We started off with casual photos on the hiking trail behind our house, then Eunice and Shan changed into formal wear when the light got lower. We loved shooting Eunice in her long fuchsia gown – the color contrasted so beautifully with the lush green grass. And we were lucky to be treated to that beautiful, golden California light that can be rare up here in the north.

Thanks for spending the afternoon with us Eunice and Shan – we’ll see you in July!

Lina and Rob engagement | 07.29.2011

(words by erin)

Lina and Rob are transplanted New Yorkers still getting used to life in California. They made a step in the right direction when they purchased a beautiful apartment in downtown San Francisco as their first home together. We suggested starting their engagement pictures there, and were thrilled to discover, upon walking in for the first time, the huge windows – big enough to stand up in – overlooking the street.

After exploring every inch of their pretty apartment, we took our shoot out into the streets of their neighborhood and on to the UCSF campus, where Rob proposed to Lina with a very elaborate scavenger hunt.

We’ll be heading to the town of New Marlborough, Massachusetts, next month to photograph their wedding at Gedney Farm. We’ll tell you more about these two in their wedding post. With her family being from Russia and his from Pennsylvania, and everyone coming together for a weekend-long party, I’m thinking we might have a few good stories to share.

Esme and Pete | 05.30.2011

7 Pictures / 12 Comments

(words by erin)

Pete and I met when we both were DJs at our college radio station and bonded over music and media. When I moved to San Francisco a few years ago, Pete was the only person I knew here besides Ben. On my first New Year’s Eve in the city, Pete invited us to a party, where, much later in the evening, I walked by the kitchen and saw him kissing an adorable curly-haired girl. The next day I asked him, “So who was that girl?” He replied that it was pretty new, and that that was the first time they’d kissed.

A couple of years and a few more kisses later, they are now engaged. Ben and I got the chance to shoot these engagement photos of Pete and Esme recently as part of a private workshop. We started at their San Francisco apartment – their first home together – and continued into the streets of our favorite city.

Ben, your work is beautiful. I love these pics of Esme and Pete, especially the one of them on the porch. They're such a groovy couple and they always look like they're having more fun than anyone else. Esme and Pete are going to have a wonderful (and beautifully documented) marriage.

Love the shot into the clock.

(06.03.2011)

I love the tension between the blue sky and the rusty hot orange of the porch shot.....classic! Pete+Esme look so relaxed, content, & comfy with each other. Did you "direct" them to do that, or did they naturally get there on their own? --Just wandering how I can get my subjects to look THAT chill. Ya'll always remind me that photography is an art, not just a business. :)

(06.03.2011)

Manel Tamayo

Great work Ben !!! I can feel their love between your pictures. Grande !!!

Lauren and Troy | 04.04.2011

7 Pictures / 8 Comments

During our week in Austin, we were able to meet up with Lauren and Troy, whose wedding we’re photographing this fall in New Orleans. Although Lauren and Troy live in Dallas now, Lauren and her family are from Mississippi. Troy comes from the Midwest, which, like the South, is known for producing some of the kindest people on Earth.

So naturally, we loved getting to photograph Lauren and Troy.

Our shoot spanned from the Capitol building to a hiking trail and into the legendary, old-world Driskill Hotel, where we photographed Lauren in a spectacular designer gown that she hasn’t had the chance to wear out yet.

We can’t wait to get back to New Orleans to see these two celebrate with all their friends and family.
