I recently took on the difficult task of photographing my younger sister Nura with her then-fiance Alex. Making pictures always presents fresh challenges, but to witness the beautiful relationship between the closest person in my life and her betrothed was a unique experience.

As a photographer, I detached from my role as Nura’s brother and just tried to frame the love between them. And at the end of the day, I realized just how perfect they are for one another.

Nura and Alex, I wish you well and will always support you along the way.

I always love getting the chance to hang out with my couples before their wedding day, and engagement shoots are always a great way to get acquainted and have the couple get comfortable being in front of the camera.

I had a great time getting to know Serena and Kevin as we explored the Alameda Naval Base, taking advantage of the expansive windowed walls of the abandoned hangars. We then made our way into the city, and it was clear that Serena and Kevin were naturals.

We later wrapped up the evening with dinner at Chaya in San Francisco and said our goodbyes. But not for long – their wedding is next month at the San Francisco Design Center and I am looking forward to their big day. See you guys soon!

Janet and Mark are getting married this summer in Menlo Park. We spent an afternoon in the Oakland Hills, where I learned they are both doctors and both love American Idol, just like I do. I loved getting to take advantage of the golden California light around sunset, and of course experimenting more with flash with the help of my friend and fellow photographer Billy Simons. Can’t wait to do more of both at their wedding in June.

Currently, Lexy and Yates share a cozy, corner apartment in North Beach with panoramic views of downtown San Francisco. Following their wedding in July, they intend to trade in their chic, urban existence for a life of domestic bliss in Central California, where Lexy grew up.

We recently spent some time in their flat, on their rooftop and around their neighborhood making photos so they’ll remember what life in the city was like.

While the neon lights of the Broadway Street gentlemen’s clubs provided a strong color palette, we’ll see whether they’re suitable for an engagement announcement in the Modesto Bee…
