Scott chartered a boat on his wedding day. It delivered him across Lake Tahoe to the shorefront estate where Vanessa was waiting to exchange vows.

A unique touch, I thought.

During a toast later that evening, we learned that Vanessa’s mom had hatched the idea for the water landing.

But she had suggested they launch an unmanned, decoy boat, sink it a few hundred yards offshore, wait for the bride and assembled guests to react in horror and then “resurrect” Scott by sending him in a separate boat minutes later.

Whether it was rational thinking or budget that prevailed, I think Scott made the right call.

And speaking of making the right call…

Vanessa is tall (5’10”), gorgeous, professionally-accomplished and belongs to a family of well-known authors.

I followed up with Scott a few months after the wedding to see how things were going.

“Married life is great,” he reported. “I can recommend it for sure.”

“But then again, I snagged a pretty good wife.”

Christen of Merrily Wed coordinated the event at Madden Creek, which included autumn-inspired florals, a candle-lit pier and a fire pit where guests could roast marshmallows. My buddy Max Whittaker complimented my coverage beautifully, as always.
