Molly and Mike | 11.12.2010

20 Pictures / 12 Comments

There are so many things we love about Molly and Mike’s wedding: The fact that they have a beautiful daughter Laila who looks like an actual angel, and who’s a perfect combination of them; the fact that Molly’s mom is a famous singer for Hollywood movies and brought all her talented friends to the reception; and the moment right after the cake cutting, when someone asked Molly if she wanted to keep the top layer, and she replied “Why? Is that a thing?”

Molly and Mike got married for all the right reasons, and their wedding day at the Santa Barbara Zoo was a celebration of real life, and real love. We loved seeing their intense connection during the ceremony, and the way their sense of humor played off each other so well. And it was a great bonus at the reception to get to witness all of Molly’s mom’s friends jump up on stage for spontaneous performances all night long. At one point we walked to the edge of the lawn to do some overall shots, and just marveled at what a perfect evening Molly and Mike were given, under the stars of a clear Santa Barbara sky.

On a side note, Molly’s hair and makeup transformation was filmed for the TLC show Wedding Day Makeover, so look out for their episode sometime next year.

Alyssa and Anthony | 11.03.2010

25 Pictures / 18 Comments

Las Vegas tends to be a city that people either love or want to shake their finger at. But we’ve found that a lot of our couples don’t just love Vegas, they fall in love there. Alyssa and Anthony began their relationship with a Vegas connection, and took their first trip together as a couple to that famous strip in the middle of the desert.

Alyssa and Anthony had our hearts from the moment they first contacted us because of their enthusiasm for having a nontraditional wedding that was more of a “big party.” As Alyssa told us, “…and as far as partying goes, no place does it like Vegas!”

The ceremony was held by the pool at the Palms, with the reception in the Palms’ Hardwood Suite. It was our first time shooting in one of the hotel’s famous Fantasy Suites. The entire weekend was filled with emotion, celebration, and of course a big dose of Las Vegas glamour.

A week after their wedding, we received an email from Alyssa and Anthony, with a photo attached from their honeymoon in Hawaii. It blew our minds that they would think of us for even a second on their honeymoon. It’s people like Alyssa and Anthony who make us feel like we have the best jobs we could ever imagine.

I am always blown away by your photographs. They take the most usual situations you have on the day of a wedding and put it on its head. Its as though you both have eyes that no one else but you see through and are able to visualise the shot. Thank you for keeping me enthralled by your work, and your attitude...it comes across so vividly that you are having fun with your brides and grooms! x

Denise and Alan | 10.24.2010

18 Pictures / 17 Comments

When Denise and Alan told us they were planning a New Orleans-themed wedding in the Bay Area, we were excited to experience the look and feel of one of our favorite cities. And when Alan’s getting-ready time included all the groomsmen draping Mardi Gras beads over their tuxedos, we knew we were in for a fun night.

After the ceremony on the lawn of the Ralston Mansion, a full brass band emerged from behind the bushes and led the new couple and the surprised guests in a New Orleans-style parade around the property. Everyone was then treated to classic Cajun dishes such as gumbo, cornbread, red beans and rice. St. Gabriel’s Celestial Brass Band provided a high-energy, horn-and-saxophone-laden soundtrack for the rest of the evening.

Denise and Alan, every time we get to visit New Orleans from now on, we’ll think of you and your one-of-a-kind party thrown all the way across the country.

Francesca and Chris | 10.15.2010

13 Pictures / 23 Comments

When we walked out onto the beach to do portraits of Francesca and Chris shortly after their ceremony, Francesca said she really wanted these particular rocks in the background of a photo. So we asked “Would you be willing to actually climb onto the rocks?” Without hesitation, she shouted “YES! We’ll do anything for you guys! Just tell us what you want us to do!”

Not only were these rocks jagged and slippery, but very big waves were crashing against them. As hard as it was, they stuck with it, even as they watched Ben get completely soaked twice by waves.

This is one thing we love about weddings – having brides and grooms who are excited about the art of photography and willing to do whatever it takes to get the shot.

Francesca always imagined her wedding with Chris to be just the two of them, and they picked the perfect environment for such an intimate, beautiful exchange - The One & Only Palmilla. It was our first time shooting here, and we found ourselves completely in awe at the utter beauty and luxury of this place.

Toward the end of the evening we were joined by our good friends Morgan and Amir of Morgan Lynn Photography in Houston, who helped with the lighting on the pool portraits. It was a great ending to the night, with all six of us swimming around the pool, taking photos and drinking margaritas. Thank you Francesca and Chris for letting us be a part of a day that will always be about just the two of you.
