Vinny and Jason | 07.30.2010

28 Pictures / 15 Comments

We talked with Vinny off and on for over a year before she and Jason decided to have us as their photographers. We knew that photography was extremely important to them, and that they had put a lot of thought into the look and style of their wedding, and how the photos would represent that. A few days ago, when we sent them their slideshow, they instantly called us. Vinny seemed to be holding back tears, saying the photos were exactly what they had been envisioning for so long. We couldn’t have been happier to hear that.

Vinny and Jason are one of the sweetest, most genuine couples we have ever met, and we were continually moved by the intensity of emotions we witnessed during their wedding weekend. At their reception, we were entertained by some of the most animated and energetic guests we’ve ever seen, with dancing going nonstop well into the night.

It’s been a while since we’ve photographed a wedding in D.C., and we got to meet a lot of great new people who helped with the wedding at the Oxon Hill Manor. We want to thank Nar and the ladies at Diyva Designs for being so kind and welcoming to the unfamiliar photographers. You pulled off a flawless event that we will never forget.

Kay and Thomas film | 07.22.2010

0 Pictures / 23 Comments

In February we photographed Kay and Thomas’ beautiful wedding overlooking the ocean at Villa Caletas in Costa Rica. Dave, our friend and associate photographer, has known Kay for years and was also planning on going to the wedding as a guest, so we decided to experiment with shooting some video while we were there. Dave handled all the filming and audio, and our friend Vlad Chaloupka (vladfilms.com) put his magic editing skills on everything Dave shot. We’re really thrilled with how the film turned out. There are some parts of a wedding day that film can show better than stills, and Dave and Vlad brought all those aspects out perfectly. Thank you Kay and Thomas for letting us try something new. We don’t know if video is something that we want to explore ourselves for every wedding, but we always love working with Vlad, who is in our opinion the best wedding filmmaker for brides who want an artistic documentary video. You can see several of our collaborative weddings on his site.

Beautiful and certainly one of the loveliest wedding video's I've seen. But, the stills you, Erin, Dave and your other associates create stay with me. They are stunning and, for me anyway, are more powerful. Of course, if you can have both...

(07.24.2010)

steve

Classy, smooth, really nice job. Not a hint of awkwardness at any point. Perfection is contagious with anyone involved with or around the soon to be Chrisman's!

Such a great and obvious way to see a wedding. The beauty of simplicity. Simplicity can be unachievable for some people - you can go through life without ever being able to simply see!!! Nice seeing , you guys!!!

This was so special to watch. Beautiful photo & video work.

(07.25.2010)

Nice work Ben, Erin, Dave, Vlad, interns, et al! This was a seamless and natural evolution from your still slideshows - the extra movement and the bits of sound from the day added depth, and I loved the stills mixed in. Great work as always!

Wei and Mike | 07.15.2010

22 Pictures / 30 Comments

We tend to attract very adventurous couples, and Wei and Mike were no exception. Over the course of their wedding weekend, we heard stories of their world travels and their unique childhoods growing up in different countries. We learned that Mike and his buddies went ice-climbing for his bachelor party. And on their wedding day, Mike and a barefoot Wei had no trouble – and no hesitation – climbing the beach boulders of Lake Tahoe for sunset portraits. It was our second time to the Fairwinds Estate on Lake Tahoe, and just like before, the light was beautiful all day long. Wei and Mike are a fun, sentimental and magnetic couple, and their wedding day was everything we could hope for.

Uyen and Ray | 07.04.2010

29 Pictures / 16 Comments

When Ray, who is a respected brain surgeon at Cedars Sinai, first saw Uyen in line at Starbucks, he knew he had one chance to talk to this girl before she was gone forever. So as she had her face up against the glass counter trying to pick out a muffin “so close you wonder if even the glass is enough to protect them,” he gave it his best shot.  ”So you really wanna get your carbs on, huh?,” he said. It worked. They started talking, he paid for her muffin, and with that, their fate was sealed. And now, three years later, when they look at each other it is with such an intensity that you feel like you can actually see the rest of the world disappearing around them. And it helps that Ray’s one liners still make Uyen giggle nonstop.

We felt like we had gotten to know these two pretty well during their wedding-planning period, especially during their Los Angeles engagement session last year, which made us even more excited to hang out with them for another couple of days. For their wedding day, Uyen and Ray chose the incomparable Calistoga Ranch, with the reception in the wine cave. We joined them again the next day, for a portrait session around the ranch.

Uyen and Ray, thank you for bringing us into your lives and trusting us to photograph such an important day. You are an unforgettable couple.
